The owner acquired the neighboring property with the intent of reconstructing it as a pool house. Zoning requirements mandated that the structure be designed as a fully independent residence, complete with standard bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms, allowing it to function as a self-contained home.
Contemporary Residence
The husband and wife shared a long and meaningful relationship with their existing home, having crafted and installed custom woodworking, built-in furniture, and interior spaces over many years. Their care for the property extended outdoors as well, with thoughtfully cultivated landscaping that they personally maintained and refined season after season.
It was important to the family that the new pool house blend seamlessly with the existing property through a shared sensitivity to materials, geometry, and landscape design. While the house was initially conceived with a basement gym, I recommended relocating the gym to a loft level above the kitchen, a decision that ultimately improved light, spatial quality, and overall functionality.
