A primary bedroom suite addition is a frequent and meaningful request in residential renovations. In this project, the preferred location was above the existing garage, allowing the new space to be created without disrupting the home’s main living areas. The suite accommodates a full bath, walk-in closets, a fireplace, and carefully planned furniture placement. A cathedral turret ceiling introduces a sense of geometric presence, while upper feature windows set within new gables bring in generous natural light and provide views in three directions from the bed.

A central goal of the design was for the addition to blend seamlessly with the original house. My guiding principle for alterations is that the new work should feel as though it was always part of the home, while improving the overall visual balance. The hexagonal second-floor extension is complemented by a new front entry canopy and a balcony element off the walk-in closet, creating a harmonious composition across the façade.

Structural refinements below made it possible to introduce a raised coffered ceiling in the living room. By adjusting the framing layout in the recreation room beneath, the ceiling detail was achieved without compromising structural integrity. The result is an addition that feels architecturally integrated, both inside and out, enhancing the character and spatial quality of the home.
